On March 14th, 2018 Deputy Taylor Walker was on routine patrol on Highway 4 East. Deputy Walker noticed a vehicle turn around in a driveway. Deputy Walker followed the vehicle which turned on County Road 5091. The vehicle did not have a tag and was all over the roadway. Deputy Walker ititated a traffic stop on the vehicle by activating his blue lights. The vehicle failed to stop and continued south on County Road 5091, later pulling into a driveway and stopping. After exiting his patrol vehicle Deputy Walker could smell a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The traffic stop resulted in two subjects taken into custody. Marice Quencha Sykes (23) of Stephen Street Tupelo MS was charged with one count of child abuse, which resulted because of a two year old unrestrained child being present of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a felon. Sykes plead guilty to a robbery charge in Lee County in 2017. Judge Richard Tollison set his bond at $10,000.00 on the two felony charges. Sykes also receved several traffic citations from Deputy Walker. Also in the vehicle was the childs mother Tashaundria Patrice Brown (26) of Belden MS. Brown is also charged with one count of child abuse and her bond was set at $5,000.00.
